hey yall. here is something i wrote up for the transformus yahoo list. read on if you will! :)
hello nice people of transformus!
as you've probably read by now, the Miss Black Rock City Project is coming to transformus! i would like to take a moment to give those who may be interested some background on the project. its a long story, i know. but hey, yall gave me a grant to do this - i figured maybe you wanna know why!
many years ago i was sitting around camp, melting in the hot sun, when a guy came by and said he was the mayor of Black Rock City. we all thought that was pretty cool, and asked how he got to be the mayor. he told us that he became mayor by simply telling everyone he was mayor. we all thought that was pretty funny, but when he left i started thinking... we create our own reality in this temporary city we create. and i asked myself what i would be if i could say that i could be anything i wanted... not being particularly known for my
beauty, i chose BEAUTY QUEEN!!!!!
it took me about 4 years to get off my ass and buy a piece of ribbon for a sash and a tiara. i wrote my title on the ribbon with a sharpie, and i ran around town one night that year. it was great fun! most people cheered when i came up. a few got pissy. 'i didn't vote for you!' they said. i told them of course they didn't, i was a beauty queen because i said i was. where else but on the playa should your dreams come true!
later a friend said i should 'do a pageant' (i didn't think he knew about all that cash my parents wasted on a Theatre degree that was gathering dust on a shelf at the time) and in spring of 2004 i produced my first pageant, Miss Playa del Fuego. i used this pageant as an excuse to break all the rules i could remember from my theatre training. i drank, i cursed, there was no structure at all - it was mad chaos! people couldn't get enough
one of the things i have remained adamant about is that everyone wins by participating. the participants are all beautiful! we have always accepted and encouraged participation among all men, all women, all freaks, and all normals too! there is nothing more entertaining than YOU! even if you think you're too boring, or too plain, or too unconventional to participate... trust me, you are special and we would love. love love to see you participate in Miss Transformus 2007!
since 2004 i have produced, with a team of volunteers, pageants in several states at several regional events. pageants have even been hosted at events that i could not attend! i love to meet people from all over. i come in contact with so many different personalities at each event, and they are indeed all beautiful!
we are still searching for a stage. i have messages from a few of you, thanks! i keep hearing rumors of a main stage, tho. if this does in fact exist, and someone is in fact scheduling it, please contact me ASAP... i leave for your state in less than 10 days!!!!!!!!! thanks!
