Friday December 5th
2AM

Calling all Self-Proclaimed Beauty Queens! Represent your camp, your neighborhood, your friends, your pets, or just yourself. This is not your mother's beauty pageant. Anyone can enter - and everyone wins! Plastic surgery, an eating disorder, Vaselined teeth and double-sided tape are not required.

Participation is open to all men and women, who are invited to reveal their unique inner beauty in these three categories:

1) Fashion: Show us your personal Decom Style!

2) The One Minute Talent Competition: No rules, and everyone has a talent - be it a stupid party trick or a fine art!

3) The Interview: Do you do it for world peace, the children, or for the puppies!?

All finalists are beautiful and everyone wins by participating. And remember, Miss London Decom 2008 will receive special attention at the Miss Black Rock City 2009 on-playa event!

NOTE: No Beauty pageant is fair, bribes are encouraged. Participate for fun, rather than play to win!

Too shy to participate in the event? We encourage you to do so anyways; however, donating a creative Gifty Prize to the pageant participants is a great way to share the wonder of your camp, your art, or yourself with both the participants and all audience members… without that mortifying stage time. Can you offer a massage, have you got a cute crafty object you've made which would be an amazing prize? Or maybe you have lots of stickers and swag left over from Burning Man that you can't wait to share. Email your intentions to karlachameleon at goingnowhere dot org and share the love!

We don't just need prizes... we're also looking for a few good volunteers: Stage Managers, Judge Wranglers, Contestant Fluffers, and more! We're putting together a small crew to make sure things run smoothly and we'd love to have you participate with us!

Check out the MBRC Project website for photos, the Miss Black Rock City theme song, and info on past events, and theFAQ, located at:
http://www.missblackrockcity.com/FAQ.htm

And please get in touch with Karla Chameleon if you'd like to be a contestant, be on crew, be a judge or most importantly... BE A MISS!!!

See you there,

Hi SuzQ!~

Thanks for hosting the event this year! While I have never seen you
host an event, I know you are well loved by those who have seen you
host, and I trust that all has gone well in my absence. I appreciate
you keeping the dream alive!

I became Miss BRC because I got a tiara and a piece of ribbon that I
wrote on with a sharpie. I knew I could never be a beauty queen off
playa… luckily for me, the playa is a place where your dreams *can*
come true!

I have said for years that everyone wins by participating – and those who
have groked the spirit of the affair know that this is true.
Somewhere along the way this started to get lost, and I realized that
I probably couldn't even win the event that I had created…

So this year I made a sash for everyone. YOU ARE ALL WINNERS! We are
all beautiful in our own way, and each of us – both as individuals and
as burners - make the Burning Man and the regional events what they
are today!

Please tell the people that I decorated the sashes with buttons that I
got when we moved my Grandmother from her home to an assisted living
facility. The woman kept every button she got for every piece of new
clothing that she ever bought.

SHE HAS NO IDEA what these buttons will see, this week and in their future! ;)

I hope they live a long, adventurous and healthy life. And I hope
that everyone knows just how beautiful he / she / ze really is.

Love,

http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2008/08/hottest_nun_gets_the_most_pres.php
"A front page story in the Arizona Republic today told us all about Christa Parra, the 27-year-old Latina from Phoenix who's becoming a nun.

Yet the paper didn't mention Sarah Cieplinski or Jessica Wrigley, two other local women in their early 20s taking their final vows this summer.

hey yall. here is something i wrote up for the transformus yahoo list. read on if you will! :)

hello nice people of transformus!

as you've probably read by now, the Miss Black Rock City Project is coming to transformus! i would like to take a moment to give those who may be interested some background on the project. its a long story, i know. but hey, yall gave me a grant to do this - i figured maybe you wanna know why!

many years ago i was sitting around camp, melting in the hot sun, when a guy came by and said he was the mayor of Black Rock City. we all thought that was pretty cool, and asked how he got to be the mayor. he told us that he became mayor by simply telling everyone he was mayor. we all thought that was pretty funny, but when he left i started thinking... we create our own reality in this temporary city we create. and i asked myself what i would be if i could say that i could be anything i wanted... not being particularly known for my
beauty, i chose BEAUTY QUEEN!!!!!

it took me about 4 years to get off my ass and buy a piece of ribbon for a sash and a tiara. i wrote my title on the ribbon with a sharpie, and i ran around town one night that year. it was great fun! most people cheered when i came up. a few got pissy. 'i didn't vote for you!' they said. i told them of course they didn't, i was a beauty queen because i said i was. where else but on the playa should your dreams come true!

later a friend said i should 'do a pageant' (i didn't think he knew about all that cash my parents wasted on a Theatre degree that was gathering dust on a shelf at the time) and in spring of 2004 i produced my first pageant, Miss Playa del Fuego. i used this pageant as an excuse to break all the rules i could remember from my theatre training. i drank, i cursed, there was no structure at all - it was mad chaos! people couldn't get enough

one of the things i have remained adamant about is that everyone wins by participating. the participants are all beautiful! we have always accepted and encouraged participation among all men, all women, all freaks, and all normals too! there is nothing more entertaining than YOU! even if you think you're too boring, or too plain, or too unconventional to participate... trust me, you are special and we would love. love love to see you participate in Miss Transformus 2007!

since 2004 i have produced, with a team of volunteers, pageants in several states at several regional events. pageants have even been hosted at events that i could not attend! i love to meet people from all over. i come in contact with so many different personalities at each event, and they are indeed all beautiful!

we are still searching for a stage. i have messages from a few of you, thanks! i keep hearing rumors of a main stage, tho. if this does in fact exist, and someone is in fact scheduling it, please contact me ASAP... i leave for your state in less than 10 days!!!!!!!!! thanks!

August 05, 2008 5:31 PM

ABC News' Gregory Wallace and Sara Just Report: Sen. John McCain, R-Az., perhaps unknowingly, volunteered his wife for a beauty pageant on Monday that often features contestants topless -- and, occasionally, without any decency -- at the Sturgis, South Dakota, motorcycle rally.

"I was looking at the Sturgis schedule, and noticed that you had a beauty pageant, so I encouraged Cindy to compete," McCain told an audience at the rally. "I told her [that] with a little luck, she could be the only woman to serve as both the First Lady and Miss Buffalo Chip."

The audience, clearly better versed in the details of the pageant, cheered and whistled their approval.

This annual rally, now in its 62nd year, rally attracts upwards of 500,000 riders in August to the small town of 5,500. The contest is named for the Buffalo Chip campground, home to about 25,000 riders for the nine-day rally.

The Arizona senator, according to the Buffalo Chip campground website, was participating in "the Buffalo Chip’s annual Tribute to American Veterans and Active Duty Servicemen." The site also says that many attendees are "veterans and active duty servicemen who will have a great appreciation for McCain’s family history of service to our country."

McCain also promised the audience that he would only speak briefly.

"I know that we are waiting with great anticipation for Kid Rock and the other entertainment," the Arizona senator said.

hi all!

thanks to tivo, i now have a few notes to share about the Miss Universe 2008 event... it was quite a dramatic year!

hosted by jerry springer and scary spice; this alone made the event pretty hilarious to watch. one can only hope that one day, the event will be hosted by the likes of neal patrick harris and amy winehouse!

looks like they are trying to update the event a bit - the national costume section was off the hook! while more than a few contestants looked like they pulled their costumes out of a bag at a stripper supply store, most of the costumes were still pretty impressive. i found the tribal and ethnic costumes to be the most interesting. those who wore formal wear dresses in the colors of their national flag were the least interesting, although Miss Estonia was probably the best of that ilk - with a bob and a fringe mini dress, she looked a bit like a flapper girl from the roaring 20s!

Miss Albania was rockin a gothic vampiress cape, and Miss Venezuela wore a red sequin / fuzzy tribal costume with a (presumably fake) septum piercing! Miss V. won the event overall, but Miss Thailand won the national costume section. i am not entirely convinced Miss Thailand's costume was... the most involved.... but her movement during the 'strike a vogue' moment was perhaps what tipped the judges in her favor. so much for the traditional pageant wave!

here are 15 of the national costumes: http://www.missuniverse2008.com/index.php?page=national-costumes&hl=en_US

here are stills of most (if not all) the national costumes: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/ae/missuniverse/popupV2.asp?SubID=3886&page=1&GTitle=Miss%20Universe%20national%20costume%20competition&pubdate=6/23/2008

here is a few u-tube links of costume videos: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=miss+universe+2008+national+costume&search_type=&aq=2&oq=miss+u

of course, one cant talk about this pageant without talking about- THE FALL OF MISS USA! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLCbsH1SOxs oh dear. this poor lady. or perhaps her poor dress designer. someone made a big mistake, there!

Miss Columbia, on the other hand, rocked her formal wear fabric (comparatively): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_eh49CaVxw&feature=related

i have no comment on the swimsuit competition. i would much prefer they showcase a talent section, instead of this. unfortunately, the interview section did not impress me much, either. MBRC project participants really rock these categories, i must say!

much love,

hi all. hope you had a good burn! the oil derrick / crude awakening burn was fantastic, hope you all got to see it. more than just a BIG burn, it was by far the most conceptual burn ive seen over the past 11 or so years! quite impressive.

the Miss BRC tiara making workshop was fun as always. i was a bit too busy to take photos so we wont have as much documentation as last year, but people created some pretty wonderful things. it was fun to see what people came up with, and it was great to meet everyone who came by! thanks to the eye and disorient for hosting, and thanks to kelly for helping make the bases.

people have been asking me about the pageant, which was scheduled for thursday afternoon. the first dust storm hit then, causing the shade structure around the stage to fall. we rescheduled for friday, which is when the 2nd storm hit. the event was not rescheduled again. it did not happen.

i wanted yall to know that i had a little surprise planned! i tried to keep the fact that i had a surprise planned a secret because if you know me, it would have been easy to figure out, ha! ive been saying for years that everyone wins. this time, i really meant it. instead of purchasing a sash, i made enough so that all participants would get one (approx 20). i hand-made them all, sewing off the ends and blinging them out with paints, and old buttons from my grandmas house (we recently moved her into assisted living). i was rather proud of them, i must say.

two people received the sashes. ali, Miss Firefly 2007, had checked in with me many times throughout the week, stopping by the tiara workshop to say hi and making her way through the thursday storm to be on time for the first scheduled pageant. she sang her song just for me on saturday, which was very sweet. thanks, ali! a newbie from new jersey who was at the tiara making workshop also received a sash. he came to find me after the storm. his enthusiasm was contagious, he certainly deserved it!

also thanks to the steam room camp (within the boston village) for bribing us on behalf of ali - we wouldnt have been able to get the boyfriends bike working again if it wasnt for you guys. it wasnt easy to fix - your efforts were more of a gift than a bribe, thank you so much!

for the 3rd time in 4 years, the main event was not listed in the who what where.

of course, this year even if it was listed you wouldnt have been able to see it.

if anyone knows why the who what where people hate me so much, please let me know. i once thought the errors were due to incompetence, but really all one does is fill out an online form by a certain date and hit send. its not hard to do... i dont understand. i figure it must be something personal.

if i go next year, i will probably only do the tiara workshop. while it is possible, it is unlikely i will host a pageant this year. if anyone is
interested in hosting an event throughout the year (regionals, decoms, etc) please let me know. i have notes (suggestions) written up to help the process, and i will be available to help, albeit from afar.

i chose about 9 judges last year, but the judges section expanded to like 20+ people who were loud tried to steal the show. i just about lost my head over this! as a result, all judges were fired for miss flipside 2007 and miss transformus 2007. we threw the sash out like a bouquet at a wedding. that was fun to watch! mic stands were taken down, people were bit, black eyes were formed... good times, yo good times.

for the playa pageant, there will be 3-5 judges that i will choose on site. the judges may bribe me to be a judge. showing up at BOTH EVENTS - the tiara workshop and the main event - helps a prospective judge's cause. these judges will sit in a separate area - ALONE - their friends may not join them. any judge who is too loud will be tossed immediately. NOTE: the judge panel may or may not actually influence the ending. bribe a judge at your own risk! participate for fun rather than play to win!

the show is capped at one hour. if it threatens to run over, i will end it where its at! we head to smoochdome at 6pm for the filthy snatch wedding. come with us!
Hi everyone,

Just getting time to send out an email. Colin and I met our beautiful daugher Isabella on Tuesday, August 7, at 5:51 a.m. I started labor about 8 am on the 6th, and we managed to have a drug-free, intervention-free birth and follow our birth plan. Very cool and beautiful, with a midwife on the ground and this birthing stool that let me lean back on Colin. I got to catch her as she came out, and Colin cut the cord. Colin's mom and dad were there too. Colin was amazing through the whole thing, and Izzy bonded with him right away. I was feeling good enough to be getting vitamins at Whole Foods the next day, but I'm pretty tired now :)

All parties are happy and healthy, and the dogs are madly in love with the baby already. Kitty is back to being completely noncomplacent.

Love to all,

What better way to rev up a massive sonic !!!!!BOOM!!!!! of energy for the burn than by being all together, getting to know the unique beauties that Transformus has to offer!?!?!

This is how it works:
Saturday, Pre-Burn Time (9-10pm)
Mainstage

9pm sharp: All participants (women, men, and every combination thereof - everyone is welcome!) line up to Spank the Wine, lead by members of New York's Camp Whisky Whores. Boxed wine is very bad, you see... the the bladder that lies within must be spanked. Show us how you do it, people!

After the Spank the Wine, participants are invited to:
1) show us their style
2) share their talent - everyone has a talent be it a fine art or stupid party trick (two minutes or less, please!)
3) answer an interview question, written by other participants and / or the audience.

No eliminations are made during the event. The beautiful chain-stitched sash is tossed out at the end like a bouquet at a wedding. It is up to you to get it! Handmade tiaras will be given away to as many participants as possible. Everyone is a winner!

WARNING: No beauty pageant is fair. Bribery of anyone claiming to be a Judge is encouraged. Participate for fun rather than play to win!

Get to know StacycatS Saturday afternoon at the tiara making workshop. It is easy, and fun. All Mysterians are invited to make a headpiece / crown / tiara. Kids welcome! Photos of our onplaya tiara workshop can be found at: http://www.missblackrockcity.com/galleries/MBRC06_tiara/index.html Exact time / location to be announced soon.

flipside flame did a fantastic story / write-up in last year's final issue before the burn. it can be found at http://tinyurl.com/pf9lx

i sent them these suggestions this year, and am posting it here as i thought it was a nice update for those not in the know!

more details to come re: Miss Flipside 2007!

thanks again for the huge spread in last year's final flipside flame. it gave us all such a big warm fuzzy! :)

of course we are coming back this year to do Miss Flipside 2007 (our 3rd year at flipside) and the year has brought us many wonderful things, some big changes, and unfortunately some bad news.

first the good news!

miss aieyai yai yai (2005 + 2006) has since moved from houston to arizona to be with miss todd (2005), who she met backstage at the 2005 pageant! aw, pageant luuuurve! she is cc-ed above.

miss bad kitty (2005 + 2006) has since moved from houston to LA to be with her roXtar boyfriend. they are expecting a child in august (my birthday is the 3rd, i am keeping my fingers crossed :) she hopes to make it to flipside, but with the child coming, she may not be able to - which makes her most sad. she is cc-ed above

miss alabama slamma hosted the first ever Miss Myscheivia 2006 Pageant! (i can get her contact info off tribe if you like)

now for the bad news:

new yorker killagrrrl, a MBRC Project volunteer and miss flipside 2005 contestant, suddenly fell ill while visiting san francisco burners over new years. she has been in a coma ever since, due to a previously undiagnosed condition called moyamoya. more info can be found here: http://www.asylumvillage.com/killa.htm you can see several photos from 2 flipsides - killa took a special interest in meeting burners all over the country (philly, boston, upstate NY, san francisco, texas, toronto, etc) and had plans to meet more overseas in the future. we are devastated she will not be making the trip this year with us. i have since moved back to SF (my home before NYC) and have been visiting regularly. we hope she regains consciousness before we leave for flipside - so we can at least tell her about it!

random NYC news:
Hookers Local 147, a camp Whisky + Whores Saloon offshoot, will be attending flipside this year! yay more crazy new yorkers!

thats all for now...

for those of you who have not yet heard... (the main pic of this tribe is killa)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
from brokenbear:

I am very sad to have to start the New Year off with some not so
good news. Donna/Killa is in San Francisco General right now in intensive
care.

Not to get into too much detail, but to let you know what happened, was that
we were out partying & dancing in the New Year when she started to not feel
well. She was complaining of a terrible headache and I took her outside
onto a rooftop for fresh air. Hilary and I did what we could, but things
did not look good and there was no improvement...so, Hilary & Simon took her
to the hospital.

The initial report we had was that they'd done a cat scan and she
had suffered from a twisted artery that ruptured. A small aneurysm, but
enough to do unfortunately require life support/ventilation. The follow-up
today is that her condition remains the same. She is in a comatose state
and is stabilized. This is a wait and see process. They have more tests to
run, but are monitoring her closely. Brain surgery is not recommended at
this time. The extent of the injury is not known yet either.

So, if you could all put your collective prayers, juju, etc. together that
would be great. If you're in SF and want to stop by, she's on the 4th floor
in intensive care.

Once again, sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news, but I am optimistic
that Killa will pull through all of this with all of the fighter inside of
her.

Anything I hear, I'll let you know. Her family is going out there to be
with her.
~k

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
forwarded conversation between sputnik + neuron (a neurologist friend):

Tigger and I went to visit Killa yesterday, here' s the info I gleaned
and passed on to Neuron with his responses, my email has arrows next
to it, his responses do not, this sounds grim in the beginning, but
read the whole email:

SputnikII wrote:

> She was conscious when she arrived at the hospital, but signs of
> consciousness were rapidly deteriorating. A CT scan was 'one of the
> worst I'd seen' according to one of the nurses, and showed bleeding
> into all four ventricles.

That is grim - it means that a huge amount of blood punctured the brain
enough to get into the ventricles. Blood in the ventricles itself is
usually a bad sign.

> She was 'decerebrate posturing' early on,

This means that no signals from the cerebral hemispheres are getting to
the more primitive parts of the brain. A bad sign.

> but within 24 hours was responding to pain stimulus with 'complex
> flexion', and did 'localize' when a needle was inserted into her left
> arm.

This is a massive improvement, given that she was decerebrate 24 hours
before. The ability to localize a painful stimulus requires a cerebral
cortex.

> He pupils are responsive to light, but barely. She is
> occasionally making shrugging motions. There is still blood in her
> cerebral spinal fluid, but they are hoping that the bleed with heal,
> otherwise surgery may be necessary.

There are two different possible surgeries. The first is to fix the
aneurysm. The surgeons obviously decided that, because she was still in
a coma, it was not worth doing that. If she does recover, that will
always be a possibility, and I, for one would ultimately recommend it.
The second has to do with a late problem with blood in and around the
brain. The blood clogs the absorbtion pathway for cerebrospinal fluid,
which is made inside the lateral ventricles, percolates out through the
fourth ventrical, and is ultimately absorbed through specially organs
called arachnoid villi which live at the very top of the skull. Blood
clogs the pathway, and you can develop hydrocephalus. If that happens
she will an operation to shunt the cerebrospinal fluid elsewhere,
usually into the peritoneum.

> Sometimes she has a
> hypersensitive response to touch causing her whole body to become
> rigid and her bp to spike. She is currently on a respirator, but at
> times is 'overbreathing' the respirator, and one of the main reasons
> to keep it was to avoid he occluding her own airway as the muscles of
> her neck would not be able to keep it clear. At the present time she
> has still not regained consciousness.

All of those things are good. They should keep her on the respirator for
a while. Not a problem.

>
> That's all the information I could glean, hope that paints a clearer
> picture for you. Any thoughts would be appreciated. The nurse said
> she had a good feeling in her gut about killa, and told us that the
> neurologist had said the same thing to her (I'm sure she wasn't
> supposed to share this, but she is extremely sweet). The overall
> message seemed to be that we just wont know anything for a while.
>

Given the story, I have a good feeling also.

2 of my main event listings from the last 3 years have been mangeled so badly causing a few hundred people to miss the opportunity to either participate and/or support the participants. this was disappointing to many people - those who participated in our regional events, and who were looking forward to reuniting on the playa, those who had heard about the event online for months and were excited to see it only to show up at the worng place / time, and of course those who saw it listed for the first time and showed up to see nothing happening.

the heartbreak for me, TWICE, as someone who planned the events for several months only to see them mangled, with no way to fix it or get the word out, is indescribable. the first time it happened i was crushed, but i understood that sometimes these things happen as the playa is unpredictable.... the second time, i admit i was livid. there is a HUGE problem with the process.
for those who dont know, submissions for the who what where are accepted via online form at burnignman.com. once these submissions are placed, they cannot be altered. then the borg gives initial approval and they are listed on the website. people are encouraged to review this listing for accuracy and email if there are changes. in my case, changes were made by the staff *after* i aprroved the online listing. these changes altered the listing in a critical way, making it impossible for the 2 of the 3 events to be found (in 04 one event was listed in a village a mile away from the camp's actual location, in 05 the event was listed on the wrong day).

i realize that the people editing the who what where are volunteers and they work very hard, this is not a complaint as to how hard they work. i have no doubt people work hard on the publication. i also feel that it is pointless to provide a publication that is as unreliable as the who what were seems to be. i would really like for the system to be changed so that people are given the opportunity to review the FINAL EDIT, rather than just the prelininary online approval. i have tried to contact several staff members about this request, but have received no response.

i am worndering if anyone else out there has had problems with their event listings that were so signifigant as to cause issues with people being able to locate the event?

we need interview questions to ask our lovely contestants (hopefully YOU - you all are what makes the show interesting, so please PARTICIPATE!) usually these questions are written by other contestants, but in a speed round there is no time! so, i would like it if yu peoples wrote the interview questions. the questions will be pulled from a hat or something on stage. no trick or trivia questions, please... we are looking to get to know the people, so something subjective is preferred. something related to burning man / decom would be also be appreciated.

an example of a good question is, "what was the biggest fire youve ever started, and how did you do it?" i think we used that one for miss PDF 04... courtesy of either blush or mayor ratti, i forget! :)

offlist if you want it to be a surprise, onlist if you want people to think your question is cool :)

All titles were created on the spot, and the judges can not be held accountable for appropriateness or cleverness.
It was a lot of stress people!

We started things off by introducing our constestants to the audience and having them participate in a game of truth or dare!
The audience and judges had the lovely contestants bare their soles and abandon their inhibitions.
Highlights included Miss Dead Wasabi chewing on my neck to get my necklace off and, especially, Miss Phit serenading Judge Sloan atop a ladder, while giving the audience a little glimpse of what was up his skirt! Miss Naughty Librarian improved a song of her own words to Copacabana with no warning and everyone found out what place a yellow highlighter has in Miss Behaved's past.

On to the talent portion.
Miss Steak wowed the crowd with spinning poi in binding lingerie. Miss Bomb Shelley turned everyone one with her sultry haikus written just that afternoon. Miss D-Fi freaked everyone out by offering cookies, then smashing them violently over the runway with a mallet. Next was Miss Dead Fucking Wasabi's vampirific dance performance with grinding and gushing and oozing.
Following that dance were two striptease performances by Miss Taken and Miss Hot Pants that helped warm up the audience in the cold night. Miss Phit came up next and sang theme songs from various sitcom shows that the audience yelled out, Three's Company was among the myriad of tunes.

Good lord, what was next? Miss Behaved started her performance by declaring it was a talent that was common, and calling for her towel, a chair, and a volunteer, all which were quickly provided. Although it may have been common place for some burners, I know I wasn't the only one that was blown away by the distances reached by this contestant. With the volunteer's assistance, Miss Behaved achieved female ejaculation of at least three feet, and I'm willing to bet, a few ounces of juice. Next year, we will be providing trash bags to the front rows, ala Gallager!

The talent portion was rounded up by a sexy, sensual reading of the Ranger's guide book by Miss Naughty Libriarian, and fire breathing by Miss Hole, in my pink frilly panties, I might add.

The last portion of the pagent consisted of the contestants showing off their burn night fashions and giving the audience one last look.

The C.O.L.D. Librarians provided the crowd with naughty entertainment while the judges deliberated. And deliberate we did. If any of you know Winter, Sloan, and yours truly, Alabama Slamma, you know there was no backing down and no comprimising. We tried to put our biases aside and award fitting titles to our lovely contestants. It was definately a night were everyone was a WINNER!
Each contestant was awarded a tiara made by own two hands. I named all the tiaras like the Miss Flipside people do. It's kind of sad since I did them alone, but I do kind of feel like they are my children, sent out to brave the world...

A good time was definately had by all, and, I feel that the pagent brought the Myschievians together in a way matched only by the burn!

THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT WAS THE LACK OF DEDICATION TO THE TRADITION OF BRIBING! The lack of bribes made it very hard for the judges to decided. In the future, contestants are strongly encouraged to step up the bribing so that judges can more fairly judge the pagent.

The Miss Black Rock City Project challenges participants, spectators, and the world at large to take a closer look at the individual communities that make up our fair city and the unique beauties that lie therein. Represent your camp, your village, your region, your tent, or just yourself! Show us your inner beauty!

Participation for all events is always open to all women and men of any (or no) sexual preference and/or identity. This is not your mother's beauty pageant. Anyone can enter - and anyone can win. Plastic surgery, an eating disorder, Vaselined teeth and double-sided tape are not required.

All you need to enter is a title starting with the prefix "Miss" and a sash that states this title! That’s right, I said “Miss”. Not Mr., not Mrs., not Ms. Why? Because we are all “amiss” here, baby!
*Interview: Do you do it for world peace, the children, or for the puppies? Perhaps something else drives you? Tell us what it is in your interview answers!

hi nice people of tribe.

hi all. a summary of what i submitted as an event for decom is pasted below. as you can see, there are some changes that i will be testing out. this is due to my desire to expand on the EVERYONE WINS concept, which has been most important to me from the beginning, yet has been on loose footing from the beginning. these changes are an attempt to reconcile that issue. your suggestions are encouraged. thank you all for your help!

begin paste:

This is the Miss Fearless 2006 Pageant. The pageant will be relay style, and participants will be ushered (ie 'encouraged') through the process by volunteers to ensure a quick, lively pace. There will be three tasks. Tentatively, these are: 1) spank the wine, 2) talent, and 3) interview question. There will be no judges. All participants will either receive a sash, or all participants will try to catch the one sash like it was a bouquet at a wedding (method is still TBD)

Determining length is difficult, as it depends on how many people wish to participate and how long their the talent portion is (we tell them 2min tops but in the end its up to the participant). We anticipate between 3-5 minutes on average. I would be SUPER surprised if more than 10 people participate. We tend to average less than 15 participants for the past few events, while the number of spectators grows, go figure!

I realize the ubiquitous timing causes scheduling issues, and am willing to discuss possible solutions. Due to the quick nature of the event, and our success as a night time event at other venues, we request a start time at around 11pm. I am more than willing to discuss why this is the case, so if there are doubts please contact me to discuss before making a final decision.

and THANK YOU!!!!!

Hi All!

The Miss Black Rock City photo page has been updated to include photos from our three on playa events: the Tiara Making Workshop, the Preliminary Event, and the Main Event. Check them out at http://www.missblackrockcity.com/photos.htm Big thanks to Ryan Hayes for the Prelim + Main Event photos. My good friend Travis Ortiz, who shot the MBRC04 + MBRC05 events, couldn't be with us this year. Thanks for stepping up, Ryan! The photos are fabulous.

TIARA WORKSHOP
Big thanks to Atelier Rusette's Miyong and Trixie, as well as the resident MBRC tiara expert, Miss Kelly Schoen. We had quite a diverse crowd, we had everyone from princesses who served lemonade, to a visit from from Mister Green, Mister Blue, and Mister Orange! I very much enjoyed seeing every one's creations, so much that if you missed the event, don't worry - we will likely repeat it often. Although I don't know how I will cart 5000 chinelle stems around me without Hi-Life there to pack up the bike!

PRELIMINARY EVENT
Thanks to Alien Underground for hosting this event! And mad props to all of our participants for putting yourselves out there as you did, it was wonderful to see you all. This event was a highlight for me, I barely noticed the dust storm that was knocking things down around us. Big thanks to our fabulous audience, and to Miss Black Rock City 2004 for bringing back her talent for us to enjoy, once more!

MAIN EVENT
Disorient was a fabulous host, as always. Among the many, many people who helped with this event out were: Leo, The Eye, Jason 1969 (stage), and Mikio (DJ). The MBRC logo was provided by Smash, and the banner was provided by Slater! Miss Dixie 2005 stage managed, and saved my ass on several occasions. Not That Dave wrangled the judges, who were an unruly bunch as usual, egged on of course by Miss Pinky and Miss Will Fuck the Judges.

Warm thanks to the participants, once again. Everyone who showed up got stage time, I believe. Miss Serenity 2005 aka Miss Apocalypse 2006, you have a special place in my heart as always, I look forward to seeing you again!

As some of you have heard that we have big changes in mind for our future events. We hope to combine the flow of the preliminary event with the idea of the main event, and we hope to be a bit more literal with our "everyone wins" concept. Suggestions are welcome! I have one more chain stitched sash, however, purchased from the same makers as the Miss USA sashes just before the burn. It is ready to be gifted at the first ever Miss Camp Dionysia - Pageant of People who Feel its Okay to be Ugly Sometimes (I need a break from the Self-Proclaimed Beauty thing!)

There are many more people to thank: my friends, the Texans, my friends the Texans, etc. But this message is too long already, I hope you all know that if you did anything for me and the project in this year or the past years, I thank you!

Much love,
We have been busy spreading the message to many regional events all year round - will your regional event be next?! This is the Miss Black Rock City Project's third year on the playa, and we have three very special events in the works for you!

MISS BLACK ROCK CITY TIARA MAKING WORKSHOP
Hosted By: Atelier Rusette in New Amsterdam Village 7:30 and Destiny
Tuesday, 3:30pm-5:30pm

If you are thinking of participating in the Preliminary Event on Wednesday, or if you just want a funky tiara/headpiece to match a special costume, stop by and let us show you how to make something wonderful from furry chenille stems. Like all our events, all men and women are welcome - this time even kids are invited! StacycatS, host of the Miss Black Rock City 2006 events will also be on hand to answer any questions, come say hello!

MISS BLACK ROCK CITY 2006 PRELIMINARY EVENT
Hosted By: Alien Underground in New Amsterdam Village 7:30 and Destiny
Wednesday, 5pm-6pm

Represent your camp, your village, your region, your tent, or just yourself! Men and women of any (or no) sexual preference and/or identity are invited to participate. Everyone is beautiful and everyone wins by participating. An eating disorder, Vaselined teeth and double-sided tape are not required. The only thing needed to enter is a title starting with "Miss" and a sash that states this title! Participants will complete 3 "burner type" tasks, so we can see how you groove. Finalists will be chosen to move on to the main event Thursday. Remember: No pageant is fair, bribing is the new gifting! Participate for fun, rather than play to win.

MISS BLACK ROCK CITY 2006 MAIN EVENT
Finalists from the Preliminary Event on Wednesday (open to all men + women) will reveal their unique inner beauty in these three categories:

http://www.missblackrockcity.com/FAQ.htm

~Who can enter?
All Self-Proclaimed Beauty Queens may enter.

~Who can be a Self-Proclaimed Beauty Queen?
Anyone can be a self-proclaimed beauty queen - all men and women of any (or no) sexual preference and/or identity are encouraged to participate. Give yourself a title starting with the prefix Miss, make a sash and you are ready!

~What if I'm not pretty?
This pageant is for ALL self-proclaimed beauty queens. Have you SEEN the pictures of StacycatS on this site?!

~Can children enter?
We do not suggest you enter your child, as we put no restrictions on the actions of other participants. Also the Jean Benet Ramsey thing kind of freaks us out!!

~I don't want to be a "Miss", can I be a "Ms"?
No! This is our spoof of the Miss America / Miss USA pageants. If you would like to produce a mockery of some Ms. pageant, there is always next year!

~I have a penis. Do I have to be a Miss?
Yes! In our reality, *anyone* can be Miss Black Rock City.

~I don't have a talent. Can I still be in the pageant?
We are firm believers that EVERYONE has a talent of some sort. Your 'talent' should be that one thing that you do, that thing which sets you apart from the rest - be it putting on lipstick with your bra ala Molly Ringwald in the Breakfast Club, or walking a tightrope, or DRAWING BLOOD like our own Miss Playa del Fuego 2004! Ask your friends for suggestions as to what they think your talent is - you may be surprised!

~I can't sew - how do I make a sash?
Take 2 pieces of duct tape, stick them together and write your name on the sash with a Sharpie. For added panache, stick a piece of fabric (wider than the duct tape) between the two pieces of duct tape.

~Is this pageant fair?
Oh, hell no - no beauty pageant is fair! Participants are encouraged to participate for FUN, rather than play to win. REMEMBER: Bribing is the new Gifting!

~Can I be a judge?
The judges have already been chosen. But if you would like to influence the outcome of the event you can always bribe a judge...

~What do I win?
All finalists will receive a custom, hand made tiara. Random finalists will receive an aerial tour of the playa with Adam "Captain Akamu" Meyerson. One person will receive an official chain-stitched sash made by the same people who make the Miss USA sashes, similiar to that owned by Miss StacycatS.

~What kind of challenges will I face at the preliminaries?
Contestants will complete three short 'burner type' tasks. It is not what you do, but how you do it - so show us your groove!

~Are you on tribe?
Yes - http://MBRC.tribe.net

~I still have a question.

By Quinn Norton
02:00 AM Jun, 07, 2006

http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,71087-0.html?tw=rss.index

What if, seconds before your laptop began stalling, you could feel the hard drive spin up under the load? Or you could tell if an electrical cord was live before you touched it? For the few people who have rare earth magnets implanted in their fingers, these are among the reported effects -- a finger that feels electromagnetic fields along with the normal sense of touch.

It's been described as a buzzing sensation, a tingling, an oscillation, movement, pure stimulation and, in the case of body-modification expert Shannon Larrett's encounter with a too-powerful antitheft gateway at a retail store, "Like sticking your hand in an ultrasonic cleaner."

Body-mod artists Jesse Jarrell and Steve Haworth's original idea was to implant a magnet to carry metal gadgets. It turns out that doesn't work: If you try to carry something magnetic on your implant regularly, the pinched skin between the magnets dies and your body rejects the implant. But they came up with a new application when a mutual friend suffered an accident that left a shard of iron in his finger. He worked with audio equipment, and found that he could tell which speakers were magnetized from the sensation that passed through his finger at close range.

That gave Jarrell and Haworth a new direction: Could they obtain that effect deliberately, extending the sense of touch into a sense of magnetism?

Todd Huffman, a graduate student at Arizona State University with a background in neuroscience, joined the project and brainstormed with Jarrell and Haworth about how, and where, to best implant a powerful magnet. He helped come up with the most effective design for an implant, and eventually became the first recipient. "The fingertip was chosen because of the high nerve density, and because the hands are constantly interacting with the environment, increasing the chances of sensing electromagnetism in the world," Huffman says.

hey all! you may remember what we did for the Miss Flipside 2006 Event, we hand-made the gift tiaras instead of buying them. check out these photos of what we made: http://www.missblackrockcity.com/galleries/Tiariasflip_06/tiara_claire.html )

we did this because there will be no Miss Black Rock City fundraiser this year - everything will either be hand-made or paid for by yours truly. what we didnt realize for Miss Flipside 2006 is that making the tiaras adds a whole new level to the MBRC experience! each finalists is now crowned at the end of the main event, and given a very special, one-of-a-kind tiara, made for them, with LOVE by several NY peoples. this makes them feel like they ALL truly do win by participating, and it was quite a special thing to see a finalist receive *your* hand made tiara. it was even more special to run into this finalist at the burn and see him/her wearing it with PRIDE.

it was a big fat fucking love fest, and we are doing it again, this sunday! if you want to help out with MBRC this year, keep your $$, come make a tiara. its way, way easier than you think. killagrrl made one, and killagrrl does NOT craft (or so she says). i invited everyone to the tiara making workshop for MFLIP hoping that the more crafty types would take over - i made two myself! it was great fun!

details:

WHEN: Sunday, July 9th 1pm - 5pm

WHERE: jessworlds midtown apartment. email me or her for the address. *everyone* is welcome!

WHAT TO BRING: yourselves, and a snack to share! also if you have: wire cutters, bead wire, beads, fabric scraps, trimmings, scissors, hot glue guns, needle + thread, etc. we will teach you the rest.

if you cant make it, or if you live far away and still want to help / donate a gift tiara... contact me for directions on how to make one!

The Miss Black Rock City Project kicked off the 2006 season in Texas at Flipside again this year, where the beauties were plentiful, and the water was fine! Stay tuned for the exciting post pageant report, and the announcement of the MBRC summer schedule – we have something in NYC for the kids, and *three* on playa events for all of you!

Unfortunately StacycatS (that's me - your pageant producer/host extraordinaire) can't be everywhere. But this shouldn't stop each community from celebrating its own with a Pageant of Inner Beauty! This is why the Miss Black Rock City Project is proud to announce: Miss Firefly 2006 at the New England regional burn. Hosted by SuzQ! aka Miss Fubar 2004. This is Miss Fubar's first time hosting a MBRC pageant – be sure to give her lots of love!

Represent your camp, your village, your region, your tent, or just yourself. Participation for Miss Firefly 2006: Pageant of Inner Beauty is open to all women and men of any (or no) sexual preference and/or identity.

MISS FIREFLY 2006
Sunday, July 2
3:30pm, Camp Spank My Glitch Up!

All you need to enter is a title starting with the prefix "Miss" and a sash that states this title! That's right, I said "Miss". Not Mr., not
Mrs., not Ms. Why? Because we are all "amiss" here, baby!

Participants will complete a short obstacle course of 3 "burner type" tasks, so we can see how you groove. Finalists* will then be chosen to move on to the main event where they will display their unique inner beauty in these three categories:

+Flywear: Just how fly are you!?

+2 Minute Talent Competition: No rules other than the time limit. We insist everyone has a talent: be it a stupid party trick or a fine
art!

+Interview: Do you do it for world peace, the children, or for the puppies? Perhaps something else drives you? Tell us what it is in your
interview answers!

Take a look around our site http://www.missblackrockcity.com/ for our FAQ, event photos, stories, our theme song, and other bits of
anti-corporate beauty propaganda. More info on the Firefly event can be found here: http://fireflyartscollective.org/

*DISCLAIMER: No beauty pageant is fair. Bribes are encouraged. Participate for fun, rather than play to win!

(CBS 13) PATTERSON, Calif. A big brouhaha in Stanislaus County as a pageant winner in Patterson is stripped of his crown. Heather Hudgens reports it all started with apricots and a finger foul-up.

It was another weekend of royalty in Patterson, and the parade queens were on their best behavior.

“I would never do it, it’s not queen worthy,” said one of the queens.

What she's talking about is what happened last month at the Apricot festival, when the newly-crowned Little Mr. Apricot, 4-year old Matthew Burgos, raised his middle finger to the crowd!

At Mil's Cafe, now all the talk is what happened next, when Matthew was unceremoniously relieved of his crown. The reason - the unfortunate flip of the finger.

Matthew's mom understands why the apricot board took Matthew's title, but wishes some townsfolk would just get over it.

“I think it is ridiculous, I mean he’s four years old,” she says.

CBS 13 asked the Patterson Apricot Fiesta Board to comment, they would not, except to confirm the story. First runner-up Michael Montiel will now assume the role of Little Mr. Apricot. Matthew doesn't even know he's been stripped of the title. His mom and dad say he likely wouldn't understand, anyway.

NOTES FROM YOUR HOST, STACYCATS:

Flipside was an absolute BLAST. Six fine ladies of the Miss Black Rock City Project descended on Texas from east and west – and I am pretty sure that none of us will ever be the same! That southern hospitality warmed my cold, black, dead heart. I am convinced that Flipside is populated by the Best People on earth.

The excitement surrounding the pageant was contagious the moment we landed. Everyone seemed to be really into it this year, even more so than last. I got the sense that people truly embraced the concept that EVERYONE is beautiful, and that EVERYONE wins by participating! It was wonderful to see contestants supporting each other, camps supporting their contestants, and all of Flipside supporting US… it was like we were all in one giant multi-acre Wonder Bra together!

This year we had our first ever Miss Congeniality. The MBRC Project and several contestants nominated him to represent his camp, Sunsation Station, who were the best hosts and neighbors a group of people could wish for. We completely over-ran their space, and they took us in with open arms. Our every wish was their desire. Our hearts are
theirs.

We have wonderful things in store for you, Flipside 2007. Music, a camp, an art car, tiara making workshops, and of course the Miss Flipside 2007 events. But we hope to see you on the playa before then, for Miss Black Rock City 2006!

MEET THE PARTICIPANTS

Miss Creant: This lady was not afraid to go first, which is NOT easy, and was given huge props for the relentless effort in her attempt to find a specific bribe for our fabulous stage manager!

Miss Fuck Shit Up: Biggest Dick Award. This Scandinavian Porn Star rocked our world, as did his lovely cohort Niki. Good times were spent with these two in the Sunsation Station haven. They wrote me on tribe to tell me they were going to participate, and they were the ones who greeted me at the gate. Big love to those two!

Miss Chievia: This little girl… this tiny, dark little girl who shines so bright… my daughter the mother… is a veritable bastion of intensity and power. She was dubbed Miss Skeered Us Shitless, and she did indeed do just that.

Miss Monkey Hump (aka. Silver): Miss Sincerity. This beautiful man had something to say, and he told us what it was – straight from the heart. He came to us at the Sunsation Station and made his own sash from their craft box. All he wanted was a tiara, and our Rhinestone Cowboy suits him well.

Miss Me: This lovely, talented lady sung an Aria for us that was beautiful! We gave her mad props for being herself, something we all love to see.

Miss Deeds: Last year's Miss Me, this fine woman came back for more this year to prove that she is just as dirty as her fabulous martinis. She came to visit the judges and a few contestants at the Sunsation Station, where she provided many goodies, including a liter bottle of COLD pinot for us to share. A perfect treat for a hot day.

Miss Taken: Last year's Miss Melanie's Toy, this year's Best Kisser, also came back for more this year, along with Miss Deeds. Melanie was crucial behind the scenes helping our stage managers wrangle the contestants into some kind of order. Miss Taken and Melanie have given much support to the MBRC Project, thank you!

Miss Aie-Aie-Aie: Dubbed the Most Spirited, this tiny dancer danced her way into our hearts last year, where she met her lovely lover Miss Todd. They have been dating ever since. Aw, pageant love. Long live the sisterhood of the Church of Last Call!

Miss Alabama Slamma: This fiery redhead received the Best Costume Award for her fabulous Chinese Dragon. We were all most impressed by the support she received from her camp, way to go Bali Hai.

Miss Bad Kitty aka Miss Flipside 2006: Another Sister in the Church of Last Call, this fine woman and her camp, the Church of Last Call, adopted the MBRC Project and made sure we all had access to those tickets that were so damn hard to get. A contestant in last year's event, she made sure that this year's event could happen for all to enjoy. If bribing is the new gifting, this lady gave quite a gift to Flipside. We love her!

More photos to come soon on http://www.missblackrockcity.com

MBRC PROJECT THANKS:

Thanks to everyone who participated in the preliminary event! All the participants make all the time and effort we put into our events worth it!

Big, big thanks to the MBRC Project: Judge Karen and Judge Smudge, you have been with me from the beginning, and are always there to lend a hand. Judge Killagrrl, you rock as always, thank you for your stealthy photos! HiLo and Claire, you two were the best new additions to the project that a girl could hope for. And you looked fabulous, too! Thanks to all of you for still being my friend even when I shutdown. Thank you, thank you, thank you….

HiLo, HiLew, HiLfe The Asian Beatwhore gets her own special line for being my partner in crime, my right arm. Stage management for this event is NOT easy, thank you for putting such great effort into your mission. Thanks to Claire and Melanie, too! Couldn't have done it without you.

Dax + Widget (Tonja): Thank you for your endless generosity, your help, your hospitality.

Sunsation Station: We said it there, we said it above, we will say it again but we can't say it enough… THANK YOU!

Church of Last Call: Thank you for making sure we could be there!

Smash Camp: Thank you, thank you for being such great hosts to the main event, and for creating a special backstage area for us. I know you all worked hard getting everything built and ready, and we truly appreciate everything you did for us!

Miss Slack Harder 2004 (MaryJane): Thank you for your help judging and general advice, this year and last!

Scrapdaddy: The MBRC Project had an official chariot this year, and what an awesome machine it was! Thanks for making us feel like roXtars, Mister "I got em' " Scrapdaddy!

Thank you Kelly for making my huge crown, and for making several of the contestant tiaras! Also thanks to the other tiara makers: Miyong, Eeva, Andreas, Claire, Karen, Smudge, Killagrrl, and Trixie. The handmade tiaras made all the difference this year; everyone won something special by participating!

Whew, that is a lot to write. Up Next: The Miss Black Rock City Summer Schedule. We have several exciting events for you, both in NYC and on the playa – for kids and adults. Get yourselves ready, people!
WHAT $50 CAN BUY
The gift of thrift
'Thrifting' challenge: Melissa Winter

By NICKI BRITTON
Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

Melissa Winter uses the word "thrift" as a verb.

To the 37-year-old actress, artist, costume designer and employee at the Heights boutique Jubilee, "thrifting" is synonymous with "shopping."

Except for underwear and a few pairs of shoes, Winters says, her wardrobe is almost entirely thrifted or from Jubilee, where she receives an employee discount.

"The last thing I bought in a department store was a pair of jeans, maybe a year and a half ago," she says. She finds unbelievable deals — a $6 Prada blouse, a $5 MaxMara velvet jacket, a $10 vintage Valentino evening gown and shoes from Halston ($6) and Moschino ($8).

On a recent afternoon, Winter zipped around to secondhand stores in Le Rêve, her art car named for the French painting that decorates it. She wore jeans and a snug tank top — not all shops have dressing rooms, and fitted clothing allows her try on her finds without fuss.

Her first stop was a Goodwill on the Northwest Freeway, where she made a beeline for the shoes. Passing over black knee-high boots (she already owns multiple pairs), she landed on strappy platform Colin Stuart sandals. The shoes' mint condition and in-style look were deemed splurge-worthy — at $10. They looked great with a pair of Express leather pants ($20) a few aisles over.

Next stop: Second to None Resale, a Westheimer shop benefiting the Houston Area Women's Center. "They're more organized than most," says Winter. Plus, clothing is half price on Wednesdays, and Winter had a coupon for 20 percent off.

She picked a slate-blue silk blouse with lace trim ($2) to go with the leather pants. A tangerine linen dress by Shelli Segal was a steal at $4. Winter passed on a polka-dotted Jones New York frock after finding a stain.

Checking for quality is crucial when thrifting, she says. No garment is a good deal if it's damaged beyond repair.

Winter also made an impulse purchase: a wooden bracelet with orange carved flowers ($3).

At the Guild Shop on Dunlavy, she found more accessories. To go with the bracelet and orange dress, Winter found a jade satin evening clutch ($4.50) with a gold daisy brooch that came with matching earrings ($6). She bought flower earrings studded with blue stones ($3).

The total, including tax: $49.44.

Not bad for two complete outfits.
FOR FIRST-TIMERS

Thrifter extraordinaire Melissa Winter offers these tips for novice second-hand shoppers.

Have patience. Don't be afraid to spend time looking through all the racks. While shopping for a blouse, you just might find Prada shoes.

Find out when the stores have sales. Many shops mark things down one day a week or reduce the price of merchandise that's been around a while. If there's something you love, buy it right away. If not, wait for the sale day.

Bring a friend. Thrift shops can be overwhelming, but two shoppers can divide the racks and conquer.

Check seams and look for stains. Buttons are easy to replace, but a garment isn't a deal if it's damaged beyond repair.

***** You must participate in the preliminary event to be in the main event!!!*****

Represent your camp, your village, your region, your tent, or just yourself.
Participation is open to all men and women of any (or no) sexual preference
and/or identity. We can accommodate hundreds and all contestants win by simply
participating, so come on and show us your inner beauty!

To enter you need a title starting with the prefix "Miss" and a sash that states
this title (hint: duct tape). It must be "Miss" even if you have a penis.
Participants will complete a short obstacle course of 3 "burner type" tasks, so
we can see how you groove. Ten finalists and five alternates will be chosen to
move on to the main event on Saturday, but everyone who participates gets at
least few moments on stage!
see how far you've fallen all Flipside, the glam costumes and nasty little
outfits, but what were you like *before* you Fell from Grace? 2) 2 Minute Talent
Competition: The time limit is the only rule. Everyone has a talent: from stupid
party tricks to a fine art! 3) Interview: Tell us what drives you in your
interview answers!

DISCLAIMER: No beauty pageant is fair. Bribes are encouraged. Participate for
fun, rather than play to win!

the hoopla. Once we are in the bars, I most likely won't hear it.
410*209*7663

2:00 pm - Cupids meet at Gallery of Art on the steps
Sing some songs, commiserate, give out gifts

3:00 pm - March across the mall to the Carousel in front of the Smithsonian Castle , If it's open - let's RIDE!
Spread merriment to tourists

3:30 pm - Cupids fly to Washington Monument
Continue Merriment, sing, gift

4:00 pm - The Eros Army marches across the Ellipse towards the
White House for photo ops and "spreading some love". Maybe we'll pause
on the Ellipse for some shenanigans? It's up to you!

4:30 / 5:00 pm - Serenade the White House. Cupids dance and
sing for cops maybe? Be silly, improvise street theatre, chant, or
express your political disgust if you like, but just don't break the
law or piss off the secret service. Fellow cupids may end up assisting the
authorities in hand cuffing you should you decide to be an asshole.

5:00 / 5:30 pm - THE BOTTOM LINE SALOON - 1716 I St Nw

6:30 / 7:00 pm - On our way to the next bar, Invade
VICTORIA'S SECRET (1050 Connecticut Ave NW) and ask: " Is the reason
you don't carry plus size lingerie because Victoria's dirty secret is
that she has an eating disorder?" or just shout "Victoria is bigoted
against full figured women!" Don't forget to give out some gifts! Good
location for giving out Condoms!

7:30 / 8:00 pm - The Bar Hop / Pub crawl truly begins!
*Club Chaos - 1603 17TH ST NW (Corner of 17th & Q St. NW) Gay bar with great drag show!
*Black Cat - 1811 14th St NW
*Club Heaven and Hell - 2327 18th Street, NW
*Madam's Organ - 2461 18th Street NW

2:00 am - Bars close. Now go home and sleep it off, you sluts!

THE RULES
1. If asked, cupid is responsible for it all: cupid planned
it, we are all cupid, cupid loves you, cupid pleads the
fifth.....ect...... If asked again, and you can't think of anything
witty to say,
just say you are promoting safe sex and give them a condom. That oughta
shut `em up.

2. Wear an appropriate costume. Be creative. Make something if
you have to: some form of Cupid, Angel, Pan/faun/satyr, Venus, Fairies,
Horny toads......
Something to think about:
A.) Most likely It will be cold. Or it could be freakishly warm
like it has been lately. Be prepared for MD/DC/VA weather from Sybil:
i.e. be prepared and dress for anything.
B.) Remember that if you do wear a pair of wings, make sure they
are flexible as you don't want to put anyone's eye out as you go in
and out of bars, etc. Don't have wings but want them? Shit, make `em out
of cardboard or paper and duck tape them to your back if you have
to!!!
C.) Wear comfy shoes we are going to do a lot of walking and
cupid does not want to hear other cupids wine about sore feet.

3. Cupid brings stuff to GIFT. Give out valentines, candy, advice,
kisses, hugs, flowers,
toys, condoms, whatever. BRING SOMETHING!!!!!!

4. Cupid will BE NICE and CLEAN when kids are around during the day.
Weirding out adults and making people laugh is good traumatizing
children is not! Please keep the daytime outside fun at a rated G/PG
level unless you are sure no families are in ear shot of you. However,
Rated R + material, practical jokes, and dirty dancing are encouraged
for
adults and at night time. When the sun goes down.....the freaks come
out at night!

5. Cupid obeys the law and does not piss off the cops. Other cupids
will not bail you out of jail. CUPID WILL NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. Take
metro, get a hotel room, bribe a friend to be a designated driver or
stick with cola and Shirley temples.

6. Cupid brings money for eating and drinking and pays his /her own
damn bar tab. If Santa can do it, so can Cupid.

7. Cupid may shoot people with harmless soft NERF arrows and squishy
things but cupid will not hurt anyone.

8. Keep your diapers on!!! Cupid will not strip naked unless in an
establishment that permits such states of undress.

9. Cupid will PARTICIPATE, be gregarious and have fun!

10. Cupid can't think of any more rules. If you can think of
anything, email cupid at cupidcacophony@yahoo.com

please send me a 'bio' of sorts for www.missblackrockcity.com !

we have just received our MBRC05 photos (thanks traffic!) and will be updating the site shortly after the new year. check out the 2004 after report at http://www.missblackrockcity.com/after-bios.htm for an idea of what we are going for - people LOVE to read about you all, the bios are the best part! theres no specific structure for the bios, but its good to include your contestant name, where you live, any contact info/urls you wish to have included, plus whatever random comments you might have :)

also, if you volunteered for the event (stage management, judging, etc) feel free to send me commnets, musings, etc for posting.

you may email these to me at stacycats (at) missblackrockcity dot com

see you all soon!
